Taraba: Labour lauds Gov Ishaku's labour-friendly attributes.

On Tuesday, 12 Nov, The chairman of National Labour Congress, Taraba state chapter, Rev. Comr. Peter Gambo and his team met with Taraba state governor, Arc. Darius Ishaku and commended him for his labour-friendly attributes, which has so far led to the achievement of several policies that have not only smoothened government-workers relationship, but also catalysing swift running of the civil service machinery in the state.

As listed by Rev. Comr. Gambo, Prompt payment of salaries, settlement of pensions and gratuities, employment, women and youth empowerment amongst numerous were results of Arc. Ishaku's friendly traits with the state labour union.
The labour boss thanked Arc. Ishaku for his responsive leadership style, which has stabilised the system and ushered in numerous giant strides, but pleaded for more taking into cognizance that Taraba is a civil service state.

In response, Arc. Ishaku observed that his administration wouldn't have achieved the listed feats if labour union had not given him space for dialogue, cooperation and understanding since his emergence as the governor of the state.
He said "The union don't subscribe to strike actions when making demands on workers' welfare, but prefers to create a cordial atmosphere for discussion reaching to an amicable resolution at of the day".

Arc. Ishaku further advised the labour leadership to maintain such committed approach and also called on workers to help his government uncover ghost workers so as to create space for the unemployed. He stressed that the payment of gratuities which started last year with N100m being set aside monthly for that purpose will continue.

On the issue of minimum wage, Arc Ishaku expressed that his administration was only waiting for decision of the federal government to attain the apex, thereby releasing circular to various states, before his administration would decide on what Taraba state can afford.

While responding on security matters, Arc. Ishaku expressed happiness that much has been achieved with involvement of our local security apparatus, yet called on Tarabans for more support in consolidating on the achieved for sustainable peace - He added by drawing the attention of Tarabans to the fact that kidnapping is a capital offence in the state, and that he was waiting for the first person to be caught and tried, and if found culpable, he would make such person the first experiment under the law.

In attendance, were the deputy governor, HE, Engr. Haruna Manu, the SSG, Hon. Anthony Jellason, SSA political to the Governor, Hon. Abubakar Bawa, Head of Service of Taraba state, Mr Simon Angyu and host of dignitaries.
