- The seeking a third term for
President Muhammadu Buhari has been withdrawn - The suit filed before a Federal
High Court in Abakiliki was withdrawn by a member of the APC - Charles Enya
said he has been receiving threats from the leadership of the ruling with
accusations that he was being sponsored by the opposition A member of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), Charles Enya, on Wednesday, December 4, withdrew a
suit seeking to allow President Muhammadu Buhari a third term as president. In
a suit filed before a Federal High Court in Abakiliki, Ebonyi state capital
city, Enya sought an order of the court for the amendment of the constitution
to allow President Muhammadu Buhari a third term in office.
The Cable reports that Enya who
serves as the organising secretary of the Buhari Campaign Office in 2019
general election filed the suit with the number (FHC/AI/CS/90/19) seeking an
order for the amendment of section 137(1) (b) and 182 (1) (b) of the 1999
constitution (as amended). He prayed the court to allow the president and state
governors a third term in office. Withdrawing the suit, Enya said he received
various threats of expulsion by the leadership of the ruling party over the
legal action he independently took. He said that leadership of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) accused him of receiving sponsorship from
opposition parties to demean efforts of the ruling party. Upon calling of the
matter at the court, a counsel representing Enya, Iheanachor Agboti, made a
request to withdraw the suit. Agboti said: “I have the instruction of my client
to withdraw the suit so as to allow further consultation." Further in his
reaction, the judge presiding over the matter, Akintayo Aluko, struck out the
case. “Upon the application of the learned counsel for the applicant for the
withdrawal of this suit, I say may the case be struck out,” Aluko ruled.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the APC had described Enya as a
charlatan who is out to cause the party some troubles. The APC said it has
commenced a process of identifying the said character with a view to expelling
him from the party.
