Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Wednesday called on the federal government to complete construction of the abandoned Chochi irrigation project in Yola and desilt river Benue to help mitigate perennial flooding in the state.



He made the call when he received the minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruq in the Government House, Yola who was in Adamawa for presentation of one hundred trucks load of assorted grains as Covid-19 palliatives.


He urged the government to hasten completion of the Chuchi irrigation project and desilting river Benue as the state government does not have the required resources to carry out the huge projects while noting that his adminstration has been proactive in the state towards mitigating flooding.



Governor Umaru Fintiri appreciated the Buhari led administration for bringing the relief food items when foodstuff in markets have been skyrocketed in the country and assured judicious distribution to people immediately for the purpose intended.


Earlier in her remark, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruq said the items provided by the federal government from the national food reserve include maize, Sorghum and others.


She said the foodstuff will be distributed to vulnerable across the twenty one local government areas of Adamawa and Governor Umaru Fintiri for the warm reception accorded to her and her team upon arrival in the state.
