By Yukniwoh Cosmos Johnson

The leadership of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, Taraba state chapter has appealed to youths of the state for calm. The appeal was contained in a press briefing on Wednesday at the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, secretariat.

The YUWICAN President, Evangelist Jesse Ephesian JP  called on youths to remain calm and give the Federal Government and Taraba State Government time to respond to the demands of the recent peaceful nationwide #ENDSARS protest.

He said " it is notable that the cry of the youths has been heard and the Government has taken the first step by the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, unit of the Nigeria Police Force. With this development, YUWICAN requests youths to show understanding as we all await government action in addressing the other issues raised in the demands of the youths".

He added that the Taraba State Government has constituted a Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for victims of police brutality and those of other security agencies. He pointed out that while addressing the members of the committee shortly after administering the oath of office, the Governor said that instituting these panels have become necessary considering the genuine demands of the youths to #ENDSARS.

Evang. Jesse said the leadership of  the Youth Wing of CAN Taraba state chapter commends the Governor for the measure taken and also appealed to the Governor to do more by responding to the demands of the youths most especially in areas of unemployment.

The Youth President stressed "that as law abiding citizens, we are appealing to our youths to act in a manner that is more civil in the interest of our dear State Taraba which we all know has suffered a long period of unrest and is still trying to recover".

He condemned in totality the vandalization of structures in the state and called on youth leaders in various communities to help the State by bringing a stop to the ongoing vandalization of public and private infrastructure.

He also urged respective youth leaders to make a holistic presentation to the Judicial Panel of Enquiry  constituted by Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku to ensure the Government responds to the demands of the youths.

In his words, " as youths leaders of various organizations and communities at large, we should sensitize our youths on the need to remain peaceful and engage the relevant authorities through constructive means and dialogue.

"Youth leaders should articulate feasible recommendations on how our dear state Taraba can move forward because we owe our unborn generations the responsibility to do more. We also appeal to the Government to put in place an engagement process with various youth organizations through the youth leaders".

Evangelist Jesse Ephesian further stressed that, “as we all know, Taraba state is lagging behind in developmental projects hence, we need not destroy the ones already on ground. The recent vandalization of a private school, Hope Afresh Foundation, NYSC Camp, TSTC Park, TSBS, Taraba State University Centre for Entrepreneurship and many other places within our dear State is a great set-back to the youth and the State in general. We condemn this vandalization in totality and appeal to our youths to refrain from such acts as we all await government action in addressing our demands.”

Evang. Jesse also condoled with the families that lost their loved ones in the course of the unrest.
