Indiscriminate Use Of Herbal Drugs Linked To Increase Cases Of Kidney Failure – AKTH

The Acting Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano, Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe has linked the prevalence of kidney failure cases to indiscriminate use of herbal drugs by the general public.
The acting CMD made this assertion during the graduation ceremony of the 2019/2020 students of the School of Post Basic Nephrology Nurses of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital held on Friday.
He called on the graduating students to work hard not only in the management of kidney failure but also in preventing it.He also expressed concern on the rate at which some people especially women spent hours from morning to evening or days queuing to receive herbal medication from vendors for their children for an immediate cure without thinking of its consequences in the future.
According to him, the way children and teenagers are been affected by Kidney diseases or failure is alarming and that there is a need for more awareness campaigns by the stakeholders.
While congratulating the graduating students on their achievement, the acting CMD urged them to discharge their duties with fairness as they shall all take account of their deed, he also thanked Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata who was the first to donate some dialysis machines that led to the commencement of hemodialysis program by the hospital in 1999.
