- The PDP has cleared all the 21
seats in the just concluded LGA elections in Adamawa state - ADSIEC’s chairman,
Isa Shetimma, announced the results on Sunday, December 8 - The APC, however,
alleged that the polls were marred with malpractices The Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) has won big in Adamawa state as all its candidates in the December
7 local government election recorded victory. The Nation reports that all the
PDP’s chairmanship candidates in the state’s 21 local government areas were
declared winners on Sunday, December 8. Legit.ng gathered that the results were
announced by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC)’s
chairman, Isa Shetimma. The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC),
however, alleged that the polls were marred with malpractices.
The election was held on Saturday,
December 7. The returning officers in all the local government councils
announced the results at the headquarters of the Ekiti State Independent
Electoral Commission (ESIEC). Similarly, the PDP also rejected the result of
the election. Local government elections in Nigeria are usually won by the
ruling parties in the states, a situation which has made many to question the
independence of state electoral bodies. Not fewer than four local government
elections have been conducted so far in 2019 and all were won by ruling parties
in the state. Local government chairmanship and councillorship elections are
conducted by state electoral bodies, not the Independent Electoral Commission
(INEC).
